Oommen Chandy to meet masses via video

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen
Chandy will hear petitions via video conference in the
worst-case scenario if the LDF continued with its plan for
violent boycott of his programmes.
The decision was taken in the background of the
cancellation of the mass contact programmes in
Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasargod districts
scheduled in August following the CPM’s agitation.
Sources in the CM’s office said that normally, as many as
15,000 applications, of which 10,000 can be solved
immediately, are received from a district . Of the other 5,000
applications, most could be solved through official
interventions, sources said.
This meant that only a maximum of 500 applications
needed to be placed before the programme.
The CM could attend to these applicants sitting in his office.
The applicants can submit their grievances from
collectorates through video conferencing.
Sources said that the decision to postpone the mass
contact programme was not related to the CPM agitation.
They had to be postponed because the screening process
could not be completed as the Chief Minister and the office
were  busy with administrative matters to ensure the safety
of the secretariat staff in view of the siege.
